Early-morning house fire is fatal to resident, police say

Firefighters in Ewing found an adult victim after extinguishing a house fire on Bernard Drive in the West Trenton neighborhood early Wednesday, township police said.
Patrol officers were the first on scene of a 5:16 a.m. call reporting a house fire and arrived to find flames coming from the two-story house. They tried to enter the house, but were unable due to the fire conditions, police Capt. Charles Morgan said in a statement.
The Ewing Fire Department, joined by the township’s two volunteer companies, put out the flames and found the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Morgan said. Police had yet to publicly identify the person Wednesday evening; they await autopsy results.
